Kyprios's victory in the Gold Cup at Ascot

Kyprios reclaimed his crown in a thrilling Gold Cup race at Royal Ascot, defeating his rival Trawlerman. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Kyprios had previously been the dominant force in the division, winning the Gold Cup two years ago as well as other prestigious races. However, a career-threatening injury limited his appearances last season, resulting in defeats to Trawlerman.

After successful performances at Navan and Leopardstown this spring, Kyprios entered the Gold Cup as the favourite. Jockey Ryan Moore positioned him well throughout the race, eventually overtaking Trawlerman in the home stretch to secure victory. Trawlerman finished second, followed by Sweet William and Vauban.

Moore praised Kyprios as an incredible horse, acknowledging O’Brien's expertise in training him. O’Brien credited the owners for their patience and confidence in allowing Kyprios to return to form after his injury. Despite doubts about Kyprios's recovery, O’Brien expressed gratitude for the team's efforts in rehabilitating the horse and guiding him to victory at Royal Ascot.
