Kitteridge may have an option with the Ribblesdale run
With an eye towards a potential run at the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot later in the summer, Hugo Palmer is keen to turn Kitteridge into a stakes winner.
On her debut, she finished second in the all-weather at Chelmsford. Shortly after, she was making her Newcastle debut, where she made an impression under Jason Hart's guidance.
Before returning to Newmarket for the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes, when she ran a credible third behind the elite pair of Friendly Soul and Kalpana in the 10-furlong race, she galloped about the racecourse during the Craven meeting.
Trainer Hugo Palmer is now thinking about increasing the trip as he thinks of options for later in the campaign after failing to match the pair's speed on the Rowley Mile.
The goal now is to get back to the winner's enclosure, this time in pattern company, after gaining some valuable black type at Newmarket. Royal Ascot's Group Two for three-year-old fillies over a mile and a half is only one of several choices.
Palmer said: “She’s come out of her run at Newmarket really, really well and our first objective was to get some black type so she has made a really promising start to her career winning, finishing second and then finishing third in a Listed race. We have now got to make her a stakes winner and she could conceivably go to Goodwood (William Hill Height Of Fashion Stakes, May 25), but she does look ready for a step up in trip. We could just go straight to Ribblesdale and then take it from there. She’s from quite a fast family, but she is very much in the mould of her father (Camelot) and when the pace of the race quickened at Newmarket, she stayed where she was and the two speedier fillies quickened away. She won’t be going to the Oaks but if we’re happy with her and the ground wasn’t too firm, we could head to Ribblesdale.”
