Kind Of Blue might seek revenge for his Betfair Sprint Cup defeat to Montassib at Qipco British Champions Day next month.
Trained by James Fanshawe, Kind Of Blue finished just a head behind Montassib, who clinched the Haydock Group One in the final strides. Both horses are entered for the British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 19, and Fanshawe is eager for a rematch.
Fanshawe remarked: "He ran a great race, and I’m very pleased with him. We looked set to win at the furlong pole, but Montassib managed to get ahead. The slightly easier ground at Haydock suited him better than the quicker ground he faced in his previous runs. We’re optimistic about Ascot and there’s a good chance we’ll be there."
Vadream's trainer, Charlie Fellowes, was equally pleased with his mare’s performance, despite finishing fourth by one and three-quarter lengths. Fellowes plans to have the Vadream race again in Ireland next weekend.
Fellowes said: "She’s had a fantastic year, despite being beaten in three Group races. She handled the ground well and ran a strong race. Although six furlongs might stretch her a bit, she performed admirably. We’re excited about her running in the Flying Five at the Curragh, as the stiff five furlongs will suit her."
The race was a disappointment for Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin, who was the 5-2 favourite but finished 13th out of 16. Kevin Ryan’s representative did not explain the poor performance, and the veterinary officer found nothing amiss after examining the colt.
