Keane guides Mykonian Odyssey to success at Naas

After winning the previous race, jockey Colin Keane swiftly followed up with another victory, guiding Brendan Duke's Mykonian Odyssey to success in the GAIN The Advantage Series Nursery Handicap at Naas.

With intended rider Seamie Heffernan absent, Keane took the opportunity to ride the daughter of Waldgeist. Mykonian Odyssey, initially backed from 25/1 overnight, returned at 10/1 after fluctuating in the market throughout the afternoon.

Starting from an inside draw, she was held up towards the rear but made good progress to sit comfortably in mid-division by halfway. As they approached the final furlong, Keane angled her out for a run. With five or six horses still ahead of her, she surged up the stiff hill to challenge long-time leader Great Mover, ultimately winning close to the line.

"She’s been running in very good company," said Brendan Duke. "I considered entering her in the Moyglare but decided against it, thinking it might put the handicapper in a difficult position if she ran well there. Instead, we opted for this race with the prize money of nine-and-a-half grand. She’s really a filly for the future. She’s not the easiest to manage; I had to keep in touch with the Samaritans all summer until I finally got her a companion."

"She’s a lovely filly and not your typical Waldgeist; she has plenty of pace. We’re very fond of her."
