Jessica may appeal against the stewards` decision
Trainer Jessica Bedi plans to challenge the stewards’ decision to switch the positions in the 1m1½f handicap race at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening. Bedi's horse, Prince Hector, ridden by Paula Muir, crossed the finish line slightly ahead of High Court Judge, trained by David Dennis, after an intense battle down the home stretch.
Despite Prince Hector being declared the winner, the stewards ruled that the horse had veered off course, causing interference to the runner-up ridden by Rob Hornby, leading to a revised outcome.
Bedi, who had a recent victory at Cartmel with Pateen, expressed disappointment at losing the race at Wolverhampton due to what she considers a trivial reason. She intends to file an appeal against the decision for the sake of Muir, the horse, and the owners, feeling that the victory was unfairly taken from them.
Simon Mapletoft, reporting for Sky Sports Racing, noted the surprise and disagreement with the stewards' ruling among spectators. He spoke with Louise Moore, the BHA’s chief steward, who explained that the decision was based on the perceived intimidation caused by Prince Hector's drifting off course towards the second-place horse.
Muir was handed a two-day suspension for careless riding and will not be able to participate in races on June 23 and 24.
