Jack Davison Strategising Southwell Victory with Thunderbear

Irish contender set for Hever Sprint showdown at Southwell.

Thunderbear, the Irish challenger, is gearing up for the much-anticipated BetUK Hever Sprint Stakes at Southwell this Saturday.

Under the guidance of trainer Jack Davison, the four-year-old Thunderbear has a track record of successful incursions into the UK. His triumph in a Nottingham handicap last season was just the beginning, followed by a commendable outing at Royal Ascot. Thunderbear solidified his credentials by clinching victory in Newbury’s World Trophy Stakes, a Group Three race, in September.

His victory at Newbury, achieved over five furlongs, sets the stage for his return to the same distance this Saturday. Davison is optimistic about the upcoming race, viewing it as a stepping stone towards a season full of high-profile sprint events.

Davison expressed his anticipation, stating, “Thunderbear is primed for another journey, his performances in the UK surpass those in Ireland. He's in excellent form, the prize money is enticing, and we are poised for an exhilarating day”.

The English racing style appears to suit Thunderbear, thriving on the strong gallops that are characteristic of UK races. Davison hopes his contender will replicate the success at Newbury, acknowledging that this race marks the start of the season, with room for improvement.

Looking ahead, Davison aims for Thunderbear to compete in major races throughout the season, positioning him as a top sprinter contender. The Hever Sprint stakes are expected to serve as a launching pad for Thunderbear's season.
