Il Est Francais Under Veterinary Assessment After Setback
Grade One-winning chaser Il Est Francais will undergo a comprehensive veterinary examination at one of France's top clinics following a puzzling performance in the Prix la Haye Jousselin at Auteuil on Sunday.
Trained by Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm, the six-year-old had shown immense promise, claiming the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase last Boxing Day and beginning the current season with a victory in the Prix Richard et Robert Hennessy. However, he was pulled up by jockey James Reveley five fences from home despite starting as the favourite.
Connections Seek Answers
The unexpected result has cast doubt over Il Est Francais’ anticipated participation in the King George VI Chase at Kempton. Although post-race checks confirmed he was not lame, co-owner Nicolas de Lageneste suspects a pulmonary haemorrhage may have been a factor.
A statement from the trainers shared on social media read:
“Physically all is well with Il Est Francais after being pulled up at Auteuil yesterday. We are sending him to the top veterinary clinic in France to have a full examination. As for the future plans, we will decide in due course.”
With no immediate signs of injury, connections are hopeful the examinations will provide clarity and ensure the talented gelding can return to his best.
