Hobson Excited to Return Fugitif to Cheltenham

Trainer Richard Hobson is eager to bring Cheltenham favourite Fugitif back to the track for the Paddy Power Gold Cup on November 16. The nine-year-old, known for his thrilling win in last December’s Gold Cup, is in top shape after a summer rest. Last season, Fugitif ran well in the Clarence House Chase before fatigue set in, affecting his Ryanair and Aintree performances. Hobson believes the extended break has rejuvenated him, saying, "He’s happy and ready, and we can’t wait."

Fugitif, who has consistently performed in Cheltenham’s high-profile events, famously surged from behind to secure victory last December. Hobson, however, plans a more aggressive approach this time, aiming to avoid the last-minute hold-up tactics. "We’ve adjusted a few things. Dropping him back isn’t ideal, and we’re hoping to see a stronger finish this season."

Meanwhile, stablemate Some Scope, initially considered for the Boylesports Grand Sefton Handicap Chase, will sit out the event after sustaining muscle strain at Cheltenham. Hobson confirmed that the team is monitoring Some Scope’s recovery closely, aiming for a more conservative approach in upcoming races.
