Havlin Reunites with Inspiral for Potential Farewell in Chariot Stakes

Robert Havlin is set for a fitting reunion with Inspiral as he has been confirmed to ride the star mare in what could be her final race at Newmarket on Saturday. The John and Thady Gosden-trained mare is poised to contest the Group One Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes, a race she won decisively by three and three-quarter lengths last year.

As a busy weekend of racing unfolds, with high-profile meetings at Newmarket, Ascot, and the Arc meeting at ParisLongchamp, Havlin steps in for Ryan Moore, who will be riding Kyprios in France. This marks a significant moment for Havlin, as he guided Inspiral to victory on her debut at Newmarket in 2021, the only time he has ridden her in her 16-race career.

Inspiral, the daughter of Frankel, has since claimed six Group One victories, and Havlin expressed his excitement about being chosen by owners Cheveley Park, having already partnered with them to win the Lockinge Stakes on Audience earlier this year.

"I’m thrilled to be riding her again," said Havlin. "She’s an exceptional filly, and anyone would be lucky to get the ride. I’ve known her well from the start, having won on her debut and ridden her in countless pieces of work. It would be special to win on her again, especially if it’s her last race."

With five other contenders set to compete in the Sun Chariot Stakes, the jockey line-up includes Colin Keane on Tamfana, Hollie Doyle on Nashwa, Oisin Murphy on See The Fire, William Buick on 1000 Guineas winner Elmalka, and Sam James on Darnation.
