Harry Derham sets his sights on Cheltenham with a pair of valuable new recruits
Harry Derham made noteworthy acquisitions at the recent Andy and Gemma Brown dispersal, with Imagine and Mollys Mango joining his string of horses for a potential appearance at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.
The Tattersalls Ireland auction witnessed an impressive expenditure of over €5 million across 29 lots, with leading trainers Paul Nicholls and Gordon Elliott securing some of the highest-earning offerings. However, Derham and owner Ian Barratt displayed their intent by securing Imagine and Mollys Mango at substantial six-figure fees. Imagine, a strong contender who was the favourite in last year's Martin Pipe at Cheltenham has already made an impact in his first two chasing starts for Elliott, including a notable victory in the Grade Two Craddockstown Novice Chase.
Mollys Mango, with two wins in three hurdle starts, including a dominant 17-length triumph at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day, further adds to the excitement.
Derham expressed his enthusiasm for these acquisitions and stated that both horses may participate in the Cheltenham Festival if they remain in good health.
He pointed out that the horses will receive exceptional care and attention, regardless of their cost, as they integrate into the yard's routines. Derham, in his second season as a trainer, already boasts an impressive tally of victories and acknowledges the significance of these high-quality additions to his string. He looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead and hopes for a successful outcome at the Festival.
