Hannon is open to seeing favourable conditions to return Rosallion for this season

Richard Hannon has left the possibility open for Classic and Royal Ascot star Rosallion to return this season, provided he fully recovers from the respiratory infection that sidelined him from the Sussex Stakes.

Rosallion was expected to clash with Notable Speech at Goodwood, a race anticipated after he finished second to Charlie Appleby’s charge in the 2000 Guineas. The colt, by Blue Point, had previously beaten stablemate Haatem in the Irish 2000 Guineas and avenged his Newmarket loss by winning the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

However, a day before the Sussex Stakes, Rosallion was withdrawn due to a "slight respiratory infection." While the Prix Du Moulin at ParisLongchamp was considered as a potential comeback race, it may be too soon for Rosallion to be at his peak.

Hannon noted that the wet autumn and potential soft ground could affect Rosallion’s participation in future races, but emphasised that the season is not over yet for the colt. He stated, “The Prix Du Moulin might come too soon, but there are still many options later in the year. However, soft ground could impact his participation. We’re waiting to see how he recovers and the ground conditions.”

Hannon confirmed Rosallion’s continued training for next year and mentioned discussions with Sheikh Mohammed Obaid about potential plans for the colt. He added, “He’s improving daily and will return to his best, but we need favourable ground conditions. If not, he’s still accomplished a lot this year.”
