Handstands Strikes Again with an Impressive Performance in the Sidney Banks Challenge

Handstands, the undefeated novice hurdler, has secured a place in Ben Pauling's Cheltenham Festival squad following his commanding victory in the M1 Agency Sidney Banks Memorial Novices' Hurdle at Huntingdon.

The five-year-old gelding, acquired for a hefty sum of £135,000 after a triumphant point-to-point campaign in October, continued to impress in his subsequent races at Hereford and Newcastle. Facing a formidable field that included the esteemed Grade One winner Jango Baie trained by Nicky Henderson, Handstands rose to the challenge under the skilled guidance of jockey Harry Cobden.

Taking the lead from Bugise Seagull before the final turn, Handstands showcased his superiority, leaving Jango Baie struggling to match his pace. Though Jango Baie put up a fight, Handstands comfortably maintained his advantage, crossing the finish line with a length and a half lead.

Trainer Ben Pauling expressed his delight at Handstands' exceptional performance, suggesting a potential entry in the Baring Bingham Novices' Hurdle at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival.
