Gregory is ready to visit Ascot

Gregory is set to make a bid for consecutive Royal Ascot victories, with the Gold Cup as his primary target.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the four-year-old has high expectations to meet as he aims to follow in the footsteps of last year’s champion, Courage Mon Ami. Also owned by Wathnan Racing, Courage Mon Ami is currently out of action.

In 2023, Gregory secured a win in the Queen’s Vase, providing his new owners with a notable double victory, and later finished fifth in the St Leger at Doncaster.

This season, he returned to the Yorkshire Cup, finishing third behind Giavellotto.

"Everyone is very pleased with Gregory. It's unfortunate to have lost Courage Mon Ami, but Gregory is ready to step up," said Richard Brown, Wathnan’s racing adviser. "We were thrilled with his first race back, delighted actually, and he shows promise to cover more ground, finishing strong after a long break. We were satisfied with his performance. A mile and three-quarters will likely be his shortest distance. Although it’s uncertain if he can handle the full two-and-a-half miles of the Gold Cup, I believe he has a good chance. He rallied impressively. At one point, I worried he might fall behind, but he made a strong comeback. He’s a remarkable horse."
