Graffard praised Calandagan’s performance at York
Francis-Henri Graffard praised Calandagan’s performance in the Juddmonte International at York, despite the French raider finishing second to the record-breaking City Of Troy. Calandagan, who had been in top form, challenged City Of Troy strongly but fell just short, coming within a length. Graffard was thrilled with his horse’s effort, noting it was a fantastic run for a Group One debutant.
Looking ahead, Graffard hinted at a possible return to Ascot for the Qipco Champion Stakes in October, though no firm plans are set yet.
Clive Cox’s Ghostwriter, a 33-1 shot, took third place and impressed Cox with a career-best performance, affirming his preference for a mile and a quarter.
Ralph Beckett’s Bluestocking, fourth in the race, ran well but was deemed better suited to races against her own sex. Juddmonte’s Barry Mahon confirmed that while Bluestocking showed she’s a very good filly, she might excel more in races for fillies.
