Going The Distance stormed from behind to seize victory
In a thrilling King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, Going The Distance stormed from behind to seize victory. The race featured 19 runners over a mile-and-a-half, with Gilded Water as the 5-1 favourite under William Haggas and jockey Tom Marquand, aiming for a royal encore after Desert Hero's triumph a year ago.
At odds of 9-1, Going The Distance, trained by Ralph Beckett, had Neski Sherelski trailing him around the final turn. Both surged strongly in the straight, with Going The Distance prevailing by half a length at the finish under Rossa Ryan. Gilded Water finished a distant 12th.
