Gingell to Maintain Trust with Elixir De Nutz Connections
Young jockey to retain mount for prestigious Cheltenham Champion Chase.
Freddie Gingell is expected to maintain his partnership with Clarence House Chase victor Elixir De Nutz as they gear up for a run in the Queen Mother Champion Chase on day two of the Cheltenham Festival.
The 18-year-old rider has developed a strong rapport with Joe Tizzard's resurgent 10-year-old over the course of this season. Following their triumph at the Grade Two Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter and a significant Newbury handicap win prior to Christmas, they reunited to upset Nicky Henderson's top two-mile chaser, Jonbon, in the prestigious Grade One event at Prestbury Park.
Securing his first triumph at the highest level marks a significant achievement for Gingell. With owner Terry Warner eager to support one of the sport's rising stars, Gingell is poised to make his debut in a championship event at the Festival.
Tizzard, who is also Gingell's uncle, expressed his confidence in the young jockey's abilities, stating,
"Fred will retain the ride, and Terry Warner is committed to standing by him. He has formed a strong partnership with the veteran horse, and this exposure to major races will be invaluable for his development."
Elixir De Nutz, in the twilight of his career, has seen a resurgence of form, clinching his second Grade One prize five years after his initial win. Tizzard believes the horse is performing at his peak as they prepare for the Champion Chase.
Despite the stiff competition, Tizzard remains optimistic about their chances, stating,
"We are not heading to Cheltenham with unrealistic expectations, but Elixir De Nutz is in stellar form and stands a good each-way prospect."
In another race, Tizzard will represent the home team with JPR One in the My Pension Expert Arkle Novices' Chase, following a convincing victory at Lingfield. While hopeful for a strong performance, Tizzard acknowledges the threat posed by Irish contenders and hopes for optimal conditions at Prestbury Park for his seven-year-old charge.
With both Elixir De Nutz and JPR One in fine form, Tizzard remains cautious yet confident in their abilities as they prepare for the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.
