Giavellotto is ready to return to the scene for Yorkshire Cupe defence

Giavellotto will attempt to defend his Boodles Yorkshire Cup title, bringing him back to the place where he shined the brightest.

The star stayer of Marco Botti flourished in York in 2023, showing his top staying potential with his victory over Eldar Eldarov in the Dante meeting.

Following a solid run in the Goodwood Cup, he made a trip back to the Knavesmire to finish in the money in the Lonsdale Cup. Following two promising performances in the Middle East this winter, Italian trainer Botti, who is based in Newmarket, is eager to take the five-year-old back to his favourite region of Yorkshire.

“He’s back in full work and has recovered well from Dubai and it has always been the plan to go back to York,” said Botti. “I do think one mile and six furlongs is the ideal trip for him. It’s not like he does not stay two miles, but it does stretch him a little bit and York would be the obvious target. At the moment, we are on schedule and we are planning to run him there. He is in good shape and we are definitely happy with him.”
