Gaelic Warrior Withdrawn from King George VI Chase
Ante-post favourite Gaelic Warrior has been withdrawn from the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, leaving 16 entries at the latest confirmation stage. The Willie Mullins-trained Arkle winner had topped the market following Il Est Francais' defeat in France but will not be vying for owner Rich Ricci’s 100th Grade One victory on Boxing Day.
Mullins has no remaining entries in the race after also removing Il Etait Temps, Ferny Hollow, and Galopin Des Champs, though the supplementary stage on December 18 could change the lineup.
Il Est Francais remains among the contenders for Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm, but his recent Auteuil loss raises questions. The pair have also kept General En Chef in contention, with the horse set to run in the Coral Gold Cup this weekend.
The field still includes two past winners: Bravemansgame and Hewick, though the latter would require a new trainer due to Shark Hanlon’s suspension starting on December 1.
Irish entries remain strong with Banbridge, Corbetts Cross, Envoi Allen, Found A Fifty, and Jungle Boogie still in contention. Among British hopefuls, Dan Skelton has left in Grey Dawning and Protektorat, while Venetia Williams has a potent duo in Royale Pagaille, fresh off a Betfair Chase victory, and L’Homme Presse, who narrowly missed a podium finish two years ago.
Other challengers include Ahoy Senor, Ga Law, and Ginny’s Destiny, rounding out a competitive field.
With Corbetts Cross and Envoi Allen now joint 4-1 favourites, the race is wide open. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes noted:
“Gaelic Warrior’s absence has reshaped the betting landscape, with punters leaning towards Envoi Allen as the likely winner.”
