Fellowes feels Luther is the best two-year-old colt

Charlie Fellowes believes Luther is the best two-year-old he has ever trained as he readies the colt for the Betfair Daily Tips On Betting. Betfair Ascendant Stakes this Saturday.

Purchased for 250,000 guineas as a yearling, the son of Frankel has fulfilled his promise in two starts, showing significant potential.

After a winning debut at Salisbury, Luther faced Andrew Balding’s highly-regarded New Century in the Stonehenge Stakes. Although he was beaten due to a lack of experience, Fellowes was encouraged by the performance and feels the colt still has much to learn.

"He made a few mistakes at Salisbury, which made his win even more impressive," Fellowes said. "He had a minor setback after that race, and I initially wanted to run him in the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot, but we missed that race. His inexperience was evident in the Stonehenge Stakes."

Fellowes is also considering the return of another of his horses, The Wizard Of Eye. After winning the Victoria Cup on debut for the stable, he had a strong showing in Group One company at Royal Ascot before an injury sidelined him.

Fellowes is optimistic about his recovery and is contemplating a return either in the seven-furlong bet365 Handicap at Ascot or in the Betfred Park Stakes on St Leger Day at Doncaster.

"He’s progressing well, and we’re taking it one day at a time. He worked well in his gallop on Tuesday. We’re considering either the Ascot handicap or possibly Doncaster if he needs more time. It’s a balancing act."

"We have options, and he looks great, so I’m hopeful his setback is behind him."
