Eydon's Associates Shift Focus to Turf Season

Connections of Eydon remain optimistic despite his underwhelming return in the Winter Derby following a lengthy hiatus.

Once seen as a promising Derby contender under Roger Varian's tutelage, Eydon, now five years old, reappeared after a 665-day absence under Andrew Balding's care at Southwell last weekend. Despite entering as the fourth favourite at 15-2 in the Group Three race, the son of Olden Times struggled to keep pace, finishing a distant seven and a half lengths behind Military Order.

Eydon's post-race evaluation revealed lameness in his left hind leg. However, a subsequent check-up at Kingsclere indicated no significant concerns, with preparations now focused on the upcoming turf season. The Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown on May 23 has emerged as a potential target for Eydon's return to form.

Racing advisor Ted Voute, representing owner Prince Faisal, shared insights into Eydon's condition post-race. Acknowledging the minor discomfort observed, he mentioned that Eydon has been back in training and appears to be progressing positively.

While discussions of a Dubai campaign have been set aside, the team is cautiously optimistic about Eydon's future, with the Brigadier Gerard Stakes being a key consideration in the coming weeks.
