Exciting Showdown Ahead at British Champions Day

The anticipation builds for a spectacular encounter between Economics and Calandagan, as both elite three-year-olds confirm their participation in the Qipco Champion Stakes on Monday. Economics, trained by William Haggas, leads the market as the 5-4 favourite, aiming for his second Group 1 victory following a dramatic win at last month’s Irish Champion Stakes. This accomplishment hasn't been achieved since Magical did it five years ago.

A total of 17 contenders remain for the Champion Stakes, including Calandagan, who returns to Ascot after a commanding victory in the King Edward VII Stakes during the royal meeting in June. The Francis Graffard-trained gelding finished a commendable second to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International at York and aspires to become the fifth French winner of the race this century.

Additionally, Iresine, the Prix Foy winner, may represent France, while Aidan O'Brien has entered six horses, including Irish Derby champion Los Angeles and Yorkshire Oaks winner Content.

On the undercard, Charyn aims for another Group 1 win in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The four-year-old, trained by Roger Varian, seeks to add to his achievements after securing victories in the Queen Anne Stakes and the Prix Jacques le Marois. Also, star stayer Kyprios aims to cap his season in the Long Distance Cup after six consecutive wins, while Kinross leads 22 contenders for the British Champions Sprint.
