Elwateen is set to target the Betfred May

Elwateen is set to target the Betfred May Hill Stakes at Doncaster following her recent winning debut at Kempton.

The Group Two race on September 12 seems a fitting next step for the well-bred filly, who is by Dubawi out of Prix Saint Alary winner Tawkeel.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor believes Elwateen will show significant improvement with added fitness after her debut, and the Fillies’ Mile later in the season is also a possibility.

"The filly returned well from her race and is in good form," said bin Suroor. "She was only about 80-85 percent fit for that run, so we expect her to improve. She looks sound and healthy."

"We’ll consider the May Hill at Doncaster as a nice option. After that, we might look at the Fillies’ Mile. I was confident she would win at Kempton, and it was encouraging to see her finish strongly and show the promise we see in her morning work."

Bin Suroor added, "We don’t push her too hard at home, but she should benefit from the race experience. I hope she proves capable of running in Group races. With her dam having won a Group One over a mile and a quarter, we anticipate that 10 furlongs next year will be within her range, though a mile should be sufficient for now."
