Elmalka is set to race at Newmarket

Elmalka is set to make her next appearance at Newmarket, aiming to repeat her thrilling 1000 Guineas victory in the Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes.

Since her Classic win in May, the Kingman filly has performed admirably in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing fourth, and in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, where she also placed fourth, beaten by just over three lengths.

Encouraged by these efforts, trainer Roger Varian is planning to shorten her trip for the Sun Chariot on October 5, rather than enter her in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown during Irish Champions Weekend.

"She’s doing really well, and I’m very pleased with her," Varian said. "I think the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket is the most likely target. A return to the distance of her Guineas win, and the autumn ground should suit her."

Varian expressed confidence in Elmalka’s potential, noting that although she hasn't yet secured another Group One win, her recent performances have been strong. "I believe she will win another Group One, and the Sun Chariot should present a good opportunity for her," he added.
