Elliott Expecting Gerri Colombe to Bridge the Gap with Galopin Des Champs Next Year
Gordon Elliott is already strategizing on how Gerri Colombe can narrow the gap with Galopin Des Champs in the upcoming Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The eight-year-old gave Willie Mullins' double Blue Riband champion a tough challenge at this year's Festival, and Elliott believes there is still untapped potential in his horse.
During an interview with Racing TV's Luck On Sunday, Elliott expressed his satisfaction with Gerri Colombe's performance, stating that it was undoubtedly the best in his career. He also acknowledged the exceptional qualities of the winner.
Elliott anticipates that the horse will show even more improvement, admitting that there is still some room for Gerri Colombe to enhance his speed and agility: ‘I think with another summer out at grass, he’s going to be even better. He probably jumped his best throughout the race on Friday but I still think he needs to learn to come down and get from A to B a little bit quicker’.
