Gordon Elliott is preparing Jalon D’oudairies, Romeo Coolio, and The Yellow Clay for the prestigious Weatherbys Champion Bumper at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival.
The experienced Cullentra trainer has a successful track record in this Grade One event, having previously trained winners Fayonagh in 2017 and Envoi Allen in 2019.
Jalon D’oudairies, acquired for £420,000 by Gigginstown House Stud after an impressive point-to-point victory, has attracted attention after displaying his talent with victories at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in December.
Joining him will be Romeo Coolio, another high-value purchase, who secured a victory in his sole bumper race at Fairyhouse. Also in the mix is The Yellow Clay, whom Elliott believes has been underestimated following a solid fourth-place finish at the Dublin Racing Festival.
Commenting on his prospects, Elliott praised Jalon D’oudairies for his positive attitude and winning mentality. He expressed confidence in Romeo Coolio’s improvement and highlighted The Yellow Clay as a contender flying under the radar.
Elliott emphasised the tough decision ahead for stable jockey Jack Kennedy in choosing which horse to ride. However, Elliott's admiration for Jalon D’oudairies is evident, suggesting the horse has been particularly impressive in training.
Despite the competition within the stable, Elliott trusts Kennedy to make the right decision and hinted at the possibility of Kennedy riding The Yellow Clay.
