Elliott Building Extensive Team in Pursuit of Fourth National Triumph

Galvin and Chemical Energy are among Gordon Elliott's Aintree contenders.

Renowned trainer Gordon Elliott has singled out Galvin as one of his top prospects for the upcoming Randox Grand National at Aintree, as he sets his sights on a historic fourth triumph at the prestigious event.

Elliott, who clinched his first National victory with Silver Birch in 2007, and later with the iconic Tiger Roll in 2018 and 2019, is optimistic about his chances this year. Despite his previous five runners failing to finish the course in the 2023 Grand National, Elliott remains undeterred. With 23 horses currently entered for this year’s renewal, including eight within the top 34 guaranteed a spot, his enthusiasm for the Aintree spectacle on April 13 is palpable.

Expressing his anticipation, Elliott, aiming to join a select group of four-time National winners, highlighted the significance of the race, stating,

“It’s the greatest race in the world. If you're not in, you can't win, and we'll likely run eight to ten horses. We have a strong lineup, and winning it again would be truly special”.

Among Elliott's notable entrants, Conflated stands out with an allocated weight of 11st 9lb, leading the charge for the trainer's 2024 squad. Galvin, who had an unfortunate unseating last year, looks poised for redemption with a lighter weight of 10st 12lb this time around. Elliott is optimistic about Galvin's chances, mentioning,

“He's been prepared meticulously for the cross-country race at Cheltenham and the English Grand National. I fancy him at 10st-12lb”.

Another intriguing contender in Elliott's arsenal is Chemical Energy, recently acquired back at auction for €215,000. The eight-year-old, now under the ownership of Noel and Valerie Moran's Bective Stud, is being geared towards the Grand National and could present a strong challenge with a weight of 10st 5lb.

Elliott also discussed the potential plans for some of his other entries, outlining their targets and preparations for the upcoming races. With a diverse and promising lineup, including the likes of Farouk D’Alene, Salvador Ziggy, Fury Road, and others, Elliott’s stable is well-positioned for a successful campaign at Aintree and beyond.
