Heptathlete Ellen Barber, known for her athleticism on the track and field, is set to test her skills on the racecourse in the Markel Magnolia Cup at Goodwood.
Barber, a talented multi-event athlete and the granddaughter of the late racehorse owner Paul Barber, is training at Karl Burke's Yorkshire yard for the upcoming race. She is balancing her equestrian training with her athletic schedule, drawing inspiration from her late grandfather as a key motivator for taking on this new challenge.
With a background in eventing and hunting, Barber is no stranger to riding horses and is excited to try her hand at competitive racing. She has received support from members of the racing community, including Paul Nicholls and his daughter Megan, who have helped her prepare for the event.
The race, which will benefit My Sister’s House, a women’s centre in West Sussex, will feature 12 female riders aiming to raise funds for the cause. Barber is eager to honour her grandfather's memory and showcase her riding skills on the track, despite the shift in focus from her usual athletic pursuits.
