Economics Will Compete at Ascot

William Haggas has announced that his Qipco Champion Stakes favourite, Economics, will race at Ascot this Saturday, irrespective of the expected heavy ground conditions. Historically, British Champions Day has experienced challenging track conditions, and with preparations underway, Ascot may need to utilise its inner course if heavy ground persists.

Economics, a budding star in horse racing, has only faced defeat once, during his debut on heavy ground at Newmarket last November. Since then, he has rapidly advanced, securing victories in a maiden race, the Dante at York, a French Group Two, and the prestigious Irish Champion Stakes. Haggas remains optimistic about Economics's adaptability to varied conditions. “I’m not going to pull him out because of the ground. He’s won on fast ground this year, so we’ll see how he copes,” stated Haggas.

Reflecting on Economics’s rise, Haggas recalled the horse’s early career and how his impressive finish in his debut hinted at future greatness. Although hesitant to enter him in the Derby against strong contenders, decisions made in hindsight have guided Haggas's approach to managing Economics with care. Haggas has previously celebrated Champion Stakes victories, but emphasised the differing qualities between his past champions and Economics. Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in Economics's ability to impress on the big stage at Ascot.
