Henry Dwyer ends Asfoora’s British campaign following her brave fourth-place finish at York on Friday. The Australian mare, who won the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot and narrowly missed out at Goodwood, will soon return home after a busy summer.
Dwyer noted that Asfoora was not at her best at York and, given her demanding schedule, he decided it was best not to push her further. She’ll head home in a few weeks after quarantine, with plans for next year yet to be determined.
Dwyer is open to the idea of bringing her back for European racing next summer if it seems viable. However, he is aware that other Australian trainers might follow suit, making future campaigns more competitive.
He also acknowledged the potential for stretching Asfoora to 1200 meters in Australia if returning to Britain isn’t ideal. The team has enjoyed their time in Britain, appreciating the experience and support received during their stay at Amy Murphy’s Southgate Stables in Newmarket. Dwyer expressed his gratitude for the positive experience and the connections made.
