Dutch Schultz’s triumph at Tipperary
The late drama unfolded once again at Tipperary this afternoon, with Dutch Schultz narrowly coming out on top in the Packie Downey Memorial Rated Novice Chase.
Ridden by Rachael Blackmore, Mayors Walk led the way before a late fall at the final fence. Dutch Schultz, in second place, made a mistake but managed to take the lead and was soon challenged by Bua Boy.
In a thrilling finish, Dutch Schultz fought off Bua Boy to win by a head, with odds of 5/2. The victory marked a double for trainer Gavin Cromwell and jockey Keith Donoghue, breaking a streak of second-place finishes.
Despite being hindered by the last fence incident, Bua Boy put up a strong performance and finished as the 11/2 runner-up under Daniel King for Denis Hogan.
Donoghue, who had previously won a race on Theonewedreamof, commented on Dutch Schultz's win, saying, "He's been knocking on the door a good few times. He settled well today and had to battle well after missing the last. It's brilliant for the lads (the Bootlegger Syndicate) that he's won. They have been here after days when he's been second, and it’s great to get them a winner."
