Desert Flower is among the 10 fillies declared at Doncaster

Desert Flower stands out among the 10 fillies declared for Thursday's Betfred May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

The Night Of Thunder juvenile from Charlie Appleby’s stable has shone at Newmarket’s July course this summer, most recently winning by an impressive six-and-a-half lengths, securing her spot in this Group Two event as part of the St Leger Festival.

Desert Flower previously defeated Flight before her debut, but Ollie Sangster’s filly comes into the race with confidence after a stylish win at Sandown.

Aidan O’Brien enters the fray with two strong contenders: Churchill Stakes winner January and stablemate Ecstatic. Gemma Tutty’s Elsie’s Ruan, who finished third in the Sweet Solera Stakes, faces another tough challenge against Ballydoyle’s Lake Victoria.

Anshoda, acquired by Team Valor and Gary Barber, will seek another Group-level win after her Prestige Stakes victory at Goodwood.

Karl Burke’s Serving With Style, having won twice, including over Jack Channon’s Manilla Thriller at Goodwood, steps up in class, while Ed Walker’s Miss Tonnerre, a Newmarket maiden winner, and Tom Clover’s Biniorella Bay complete the field.

Walker also has Scenic in the Betfred Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes, fresh from her Galtres Stakes win. Her rivals include Hughie Morrison’s Mistral Star, fourth in the Yorkshire Oaks, and Andrew Balding’s Night Sparkle, who also placed fourth in the Lonsdale Cup.

Defending champion Sumo Sam, trained by Paul and Oliver Cole, aims for a repeat victory, while Ballydoyle’s Grateful, winner of the Stanerra Stakes, will represent the stable. Dermot Weld’s Shamida is notably absent.

In the day’s most valuable race, the Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, Aidan O’Brien’s Camille Pissarro is a strong contender. The 20-strong field also includes Jack Jones’ Super Sprint winner Caburn, who bested Camille Pissarro in the Gimcrack, and Ed Bethell’s Richmond Stakes third Intrusively, who made a winning debut at Nottingham last month.
