Deira Mile shall miss the Irish Derby and join St Leger

Deira Mile will not be running in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby as his primary target is now St Leger at Doncaster in September. The colt, trained by Owen Burrows, finished fourth in the Futurity Trophy last season and broke his maiden with a comfortable win at Windsor this season.

After a wide draw at the Epsom Derby, Deira Mile made up ground towards the end of the race but finished fourth. Burrows believes that the mile-and-three-quarters trip of the St Leger will be more suitable for him compared to a mile and a half at the Curragh.

Burrows confirmed that Deira Mile will not be running in the Irish Derby, and they will give him more time to prepare for the St Leger. Another horse trained by Burrows, War Rooms, will also not be heading to Ireland due to a need for a drop in class after a disappointing performance at Royal Ascot.

Burrows mentioned that they would rethink the strategy for War Rooms and aim for a lower-class race to get his confidence back. Both horses will be avoiding Ireland for now.
