Dee Capo Paves the Way to Fairyhouse or Aintree
Dee Capo and Ashdale Bob asserted their dominance in the Quinnbet Hurdle at Leopardstown, with Dee Capo emerging as the strongest contender in the race.
Taking charge during the straight, Ashdale Bob led the pack while Dee Capo steadily progressed into second position. Their battle culminated at the final hurdle, where Dee Capo surged ahead and claimed victory during the final stretch.
The 3/1 contender secured the win by a margin of one length and three-quarters over the 5/2 runner-up. Trainer Gordon Elliott expressed his satisfaction with Dee Capo's performance, noting the horse's potential for further growth.
Elliott commented,
“He’s a promising horse with plenty of room for improvement. Following a brief break to refresh, we plan to bring him back for the upcoming spring races. Potential venues could include Fairyhouse or Aintree, and he seems well-suited for steeplechase events."
Regarding the jockey, Elliott praised Danny's skilful handling of Dee Capo and acknowledged the competitive nature of the sport. He added,
“Jack (Kennedy) may be facing a dry spell in terms of wins, but our horses are performing well, which is the ultimate priority.”
Dee Capo returned to the track after a hiatus since narrowly missing the top spot in a Grade 3 novice hurdle at Navan in November. Despite being the 6/5 favourite, Cash Back faltered and finished fourth, eventually being withdrawn before the final hurdle.
