Dante winner Economics will face Jayarebe at Deauville

Dante winner Economics will face Royal Ascot hero Jayarebe in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville on Thursday.

Trained by William Haggas, Economics won York's Derby trial by six lengths but skipped Epsom and took a mid-season break. Haggas considered entries in the York Stakes and the Juddmonte International but opted for this Group Two race against fellow three-year-olds. Haggas is pleased with the colt's condition and is eager to see him back in action, though he remains focused on the immediate race rather than future plans.

Jayarebe, trained by Brian Meehan, started his three-year-old season with a win in the Feilden Stakes but was third in the Dee Stakes before winning the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot. Meehan is confident about Jayarebe's form and sees the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano as a logical next step before targeting the Breeders’ Cup Turf later in the year.

Alongside Economics and Jayarebe, the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano field includes Ed Walker’s Almaqam, who steps up to a mile and a quarter after a sixth-place finish in the St James’s Palace Stakes. French contender Bright Picture, trained by Andre Fabre, looks strong with four wins from five starts, including a victory in the Group Two Prix Eugene Adam.
