Cricket star Kieswetter commends Mullins for the triumphant journey of Il Etait Temps

Former English cricketer Craig Kieswetter has paid a glowing tribute to the training prowess of Willie Mullins as he embarks on a quest for Cheltenham Festival glory with his Leopardstown champion, Il Etait Temps.

The six-year-old, owned by Barnane Stud and the Hollywood Syndicate, secured victory for the second consecutive year at the prestigious Dublin Racing Festival. Il Etait Temps triumphed in the Grade One race after Marine Nationale's unexpected absence, surging ahead of Found A Fifty under the expert guidance of jockey Danny Mullins. Kieswetter, renowned for his cricketing skills and golfing talent, likened Mullins to true champions like Messi, Ronaldo, and Schumacher, hailing him as one himself. With immense passion, energy, and an unwavering focus on winning, Mullins has cemented his place among the all-time greats.

Kieswetter also showered praise on Il Etait Temps and Danny Mullins for their exceptional performance in the thrilling two-mile Grade One event. Notably, the victory coincided with the one-year anniversary of Il Etait Temps' first Grade One win. Kieswetter expressed delight at having Ross Doyle, a close friend who played a crucial role in sourcing the horse, present at the racecourse. Describing Il Etait Temps as a challenging horse to follow due to his inconsistent jumping, Kieswetter acknowledged the full range of emotions experienced while watching his races.

Il Etait Temps' gutsy triumph came amidst Mullins' extraordinary dominance at the Dublin Racing Festival, where he claimed all eight Grade One prizes on offer. While some have questioned Mullins' stranglehold on the sport, Kieswetter staunchly defended him, emphasising his winning mentality and equitable treatment of owners and horses in his vast arsenal. Kieswetter commended the professionalism and fairness displayed by Mullins and his team at Closutton, noting their inclusive approach and dedication to each horse's success, regardless of the number of runners in a race.

Dismissing criticism of Mullins' dominance as unfair, Kieswetter highlighted the impressive drive and camaraderie within the yard. With Il Etait Temps emerging as a strong contender for the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival, Kieswetter expressed enthusiasm and anticipation for the event, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to cheer on the horse alongside the team.
