Coral-Eclipse is the next port of call for O`Brien`s champion

City Of Troy, the winner of the Derby, will be dropping back in the distance for his next race at Sandown’s Coral-Eclipse. Trainer Aidan O’Brien’s Epsom champion had a stellar juvenile season, going unbeaten and sparking dreams of a triple crown.

After a disappointing run at the 2000 Guineas, City Of Troy proved his critics wrong at Epsom, winning by two and three-quarter lengths. While he had the option to run in the Irish Derby, owners Coolmore have confirmed his entry in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on July 6, with Los Angeles set to represent Ballydoyle at the Curragh on June 30.

City Of Troy’s odds have been cut to even-money favourite by Coral following the announcement, and he is expected to be a strong contender in the Eclipse Stakes. His presence adds excitement to the race, as he aims to become the first Epsom winner since Sea The Stars to also triumph at Sandown.

In addition, Coolmore revealed that Auguste Rodin will compete in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, while Sierra Leone, the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, will take on the Travers Stakes at Saratoga. City Of Troy’s plans may include the Travers Stakes as well.
