Constitution Hill Set for Possible Christmas Hurdle

Trainer Nicky Henderson has delivered encouraging news regarding superstar hurdler Constitution Hill, confirming that the seven-year-old’s injury is less severe than initially feared. A return in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day remains a possibility as the unbeaten gelding begins gentle exercise.

Constitution Hill was forced to miss Saturday’s Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle after being declared lame last Friday. Initial concerns were allayed following extensive diagnostic tests, which pinpointed the issue as inflammation in his near-fore pastern, causing nerve sensitivity.

“From being noticeably lame on Friday and Saturday, he’s miles better this morning,” Henderson shared in a video update on X. “An MRI scan revealed a small area of inflammation pressing on a nerve, which was very sore, but thankfully, it’s improving rapidly.”

With the Fighting Fifth ruled out, Henderson is optimistic about targeting the Christmas Hurdle, a race Constitution Hill won impressively last year, as he builds toward another stellar season.

“We’re starting some gentle walking today with real hope of continuing his preparation for the Christmas Hurdle,” Henderson said. “Let’s aim to get his great career back on track.”

Constitution Hill’s dominant performances, including victories in the Champion Hurdle and Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, have cemented his status as one of the sport’s brightest stars. Fans eagerly await his return, confident this minor setback won’t deter his remarkable trajectory.
