Constitution Hill in a veterinary clinic to watch for signs of possible colic: "We've had a traumatic few days."

Nicky Henderson has unveiled his standout hurdler, Constitution Hill.

Has been at the veterinary hospital since Wednesday evening for close observation due to suspected colic.

The trainer, who has won the championship six times, mentioned that the Grade 1 winner still needs to overcome the challenges fully. However, he remains optimistic about the possibility of the horse returning to Seven Barrows in the near future.

Constitution Hill, the top-rated hurdler in training, has become an incredibly improbable contender at Punchestown.

Henderson provided an update on X, stating that they have experienced a series of challenging days. Unfortunately, Constitution Hill had to be taken to the veterinary hospital on Wednesday night due to concerns of colic, requiring close monitoring. I'm happy to report that they have successfully avoided surgery thus far, and this morning, they are being gradually reintroduced to a regular diet. If this progresses smoothly, they could be discharged within the next day or two.

"We're not completely clear yet, but we have high hopes that he'll make a speedy recovery, which will bring us immense relief."

"Unfortunately, this will disrupt our strategy to reach Punchestown, which is quite disheartening. However, our top priority right now is ensuring his safe return."

The reigning Champion Hurdle victor from last season was unable to defend his title at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival due to unsatisfactory blood test results prior to the race. In addition, he failed to attend his trial race in January because of a subpar examination.

Michael Buckley's horse has only competed once this season, emerging victorious in Kempton's Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day.

Henderson has been going through a difficult period recently, having to withdraw several of his top contenders at the Cheltenham Festival, such as Jonbon, Shishkin, and Sir Gino, because of underwhelming performances from other horses in his stable.

For the first time since 2008, he experienced a lack of success at the festival and had his least successful March since Racing Post records started in 1988, with only two victories out of 31 participants.

Paddy Power has increased the odds for Constitution Hill in the 2025 Champion Hurdle to 5-2, up from the previous odds of 13-8.
