Connections weigh up UK or France options for Field Of Gold
Following Field Of Gold's impressive victory in the Solario Stakes at Sandown, connections are weighing up future options both in the UK and France.
The Kingman colt, who finished third on his debut at Doncaster behind the subsequent Listed winner New Century, confirmed his promise with a comfortable win at Newmarket’s July meeting and followed up with a Group Three triumph in Esher.
John and Thady Gosden’s grey, owned by Juddmonte, is now poised for a step-up in class. The team is considering whether to target the Royal Lodge or Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, or the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at ParisLongchamp on Arc weekend.
Juddmonte’s European racing manager Barry Mahon commented: "We were absolutely delighted with his performance on Saturday. He handled the race very well. For an inexperienced horse, he’s quite professional, and Kieran (Shoemark) was very impressed. Kieran noted that when the second horse (Matauri Bay) approached, Field Of Gold responded and quickened again, suggesting he wasn’t fully exerting himself in front. He put the race to bed nicely, and he’s an exciting colt for the future. We have three options on the table: the Royal Lodge, the Dewhurst, and the Lagardere. We haven’t made a final decision yet and will assess how he recovers over the next week before discussing it with the owners. But I expect it will be one of those three races."
