George Baker is closely monitoring conditions at Doncaster as he considers a run for Stewards’ Cup winner Get It in the Betfred Portland on Saturday.
The six-year-old surprised with a 40-1 victory in Goodwood’s feature sprint handicap earlier this summer. Connections are keen to enter more valuable handicaps before Get It returns to Bahrain later in the year.
Get It also has an entry for the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup, scheduled for September 21, a week after Portland. However, Baker is keen to race at Doncaster first, provided the ground conditions are favourable during the St Leger Festival.
"He’s in good shape and will be entered for Portland," said Baker. "He’s also in the Ayr Gold Cup, but he prefers firmer ground, so our decision will depend on the weather. If it rains, we may wait and aim for Bahrain in the winter. But if the ground is good or better at Doncaster, I’d love to run him there."
