Connections need some time to decide on Sunway's next outing

Following his third-place finish in the St Leger on Saturday, Sunway is being considered for both the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Qipco Champion Stakes.

David Menuisier’s colt, who has not won since his Group One triumph in France as a juvenile, has had a strong season with notable performances. He came close in the Irish Derby against Los Angeles and was the best of the three-year-olds in the King George, finishing fourth. In the St Leger, he was initially fourth but was promoted to third after being hampered by Deira Mile.

Menuisier was pleased with Sunway’s run and remains optimistic about his chances of securing another major victory this year.

"He came out of the race well, and I believe the third-place result was justified," Menuisier said. "He ran his heart out and stayed the trip well. It was a satisfactory performance."

Menuisier is weighing options for Sunway’s next race, with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Champion Stakes as strong possibilities. "We’re considering both, but we’ll likely choose one over the other. We’ll make a decision soon," he added.

This season, Menuisier has seen three of his horses place in five European Classics. Alongside Sunway’s performances, Tamfana was fourth in the 1000 Guineas and third in the French Oaks, while War Chimes finished third in the Oaks at Epsom.

"Despite the frustration of not winning, it’s a pleasure to be competitive in these major races," Menuisier concluded.
