Connections feel It’s too early to set specific targets for Nashwa

Nashwa is on the path to recovery, but connections feel it’s too early to set specific targets for the high-class mare trained by John and Thady Gosden.

The five-year-old had a stellar 2022, finishing third in the Oaks at Epsom, winning the French Oaks, and securing a Nassau Stakes victory. Last season, she also won the Falmouth Stakes, was second in the Juddmonte International, and third in the Irish Champion Stakes.

However, Nashwa hasn’t raced since her ninth-place finish in the Dubai Turf at Meydan in March. Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe noted, "She’s in full work and moving well, but we don’t have a plan or target yet. We’re focusing on gradually bringing her back to full fitness."

Grimthorpe continued, "She’s only just started serious work, and while we’re considering an autumn campaign, including races like the Prix de l’Opera and British Champions Day, it’s still too early to commit to any specific targets. We need to see her progress further before making any definitive decisions."

Nashwa remains an important horse for owner Imad Al Sagar, having won three Group One races and a Classic, and with her lineage including Frankel. "She’s crucial for the stud, so we need to handle her with care and adjust plans as she progresses," Grimthorpe added.
