Connections are searching for the best route for Raqiya

Owen Burrows is considering Raqiya’s next target following her success as a Group Three winner. The Shadwell-owned filly was awarded the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood after initially being blocked by the winner, Jabaara.

Having demonstrated her stamina over seven furlongs, Raqiya has opened up several potential options. However, Burrows and connections are still exploring the best route, as a Group Two race would be the logical next step, but they haven't identified a clear option for fillies.

Burrows noted that Raqiya is doing well and appears to be in good condition. He mentioned that discussions are underway with Sheikha Hissa, Angus Gold, and Richard Hills about her next steps. The lack of an obvious next step in their program presents a challenge due to limited options.

He added that it was encouraging to see Raqiya handle the seven furlongs effectively. Although she has always shown speed, her performance out of a Dansili mare was particularly promising. Fast ground is essential for her, as she hasn't performed at her best on softer surfaces, as demonstrated in previous runs at Ayr and York. The team is currently evaluating her next race options.
