Golden Sixty will remain in training with the possibility of extending his racing career into his ninth year.
Initially, his last appearance in the Champions Mile in April was anticipated to be his final outing. However, connections are now contemplating giving him one more chance to shine.
The accomplished Grade One winner remains in excellent physical condition, prompting trainer Francis Lui to keep him lightly exercising.
“We’ll make a decision next season,” Lui shared with the South China Morning Post. “We’ll keep him lightly trotting, not pushing him too hard but just keeping him active. It’s important to keep his joints and bones moving. Physically, he’s in great shape, and mentally, he still enjoys racing – it’s something he truly relishes. If I do decide to run him again, the Hong Kong Mile will be the main target. We'll consider giving him a warm-up race as well.”
Vincent Ho, who has ridden Golden Sixty in all his races, shares Lui’s enthusiasm.
“I see him every day,” Ho commented. “He’s doing well, feeling fresh and currently just trotting. He still has the desire to race, of course. What sets the good horses apart from the legends is their mindset – and Golden Sixty possesses both the ability and the mindset.”
Ho also disclosed his upcoming plans to return to the UK, a venture that was thwarted last summer due to injury.
“I’ll be riding for Charlie Johnston and heading to Goodwood for a week – it will be an enriching experience. Following Goodwood, I’ll be in the UK for another two weeks – spending about a month there,” he revealed. “After the UK, I’m off to Japan for the jockey championship at the end of August. Competing alongside the world’s best jockeys and horses will be an invaluable experience.”
