Connections are choosing the best option for Francophone
There has not yet been a decision made on whether Francophone will participate in Royal Ascot, but connections will likely choose to skip the Ribblesdale Stakes and remain at 10 furlongs instead.
Trained by Charlie Johnston, Francophone finished as the runner-up in the Musidora before claiming victory at Listed level in the Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood last month. This win opened up the possibility of her competing at Ascot.
However, owner Kirsten Rausing is hesitant about moving Francophone up to a mile and a half at this early stage in her career. She is considering alternative options, such as the Jenningsbet In Shiremoor Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle at the end of June.
Johnston explained, "The Ribblesdale is still an option, but we have been discussing future plans with Ms Rausing. She is not entirely convinced about moving up to 12 furlongs just yet. While there is confidence that Francophone could stay the distance based on her breeding, we are considering other races like the Hoppings at Newcastle over a mile and a quarter."
At this point, it is undecided whether the Francophone will compete in the Ribblesdale or stick to 10 furlongs for the time being. Johnston emphasised the importance of considering all options, rather than solely focusing on Ascot, and mentioned that they would choose the best race for Francophone's development.
