Harry Cobden is optimistic about his chances of participating in the crucial stage of the Randox Grand National now that he has been confirmed as the jockey for Noble Yeats, the winner of the 2022 race.
Previously, Sean Bowen had been riding Noble Yeats, who is trained by Emmet Mullins, due to the retirement of Sam Waley-Cohen. However, when Bowen was injured earlier this year, Cobden took over the ride and won the Cleeve Hurdle with Noble Yeats. Despite an unplaced finish in the Stayers' Hurdle, Cobden has been chosen to ride Noble Yeats at Aintree.
Cobden expressed his excitement about the upcoming Grand National, acknowledging the expertise of trainer Emmet Mullins. He mentioned that he had gained valuable experience by riding Noble Yeats and would review the horse's previous National runs. The connections of Noble Yeats prefer drier ground conditions for the race.
Harry acknowledged the significance of the Grand National and expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to win it. He acknowledged his previous lack of success in the race but mentioned his victories in the Topham aboard Ultragold.
"I haven't had much success in the National itself, but I won the Topham a couple of times aboard Ultragold, so I do know the sort of horse required to go well around there. Unfortunately, I don't often get to the second circuit in the big race itself, so let's hope that changes this year!
"It's the biggest and most well-known race of the season and it would be amazing to win it. To me, it's only second to the Gold Cup, and of course, I'd love to win it. I'm very lucky to have a horse this year that has a proper chance, and I can't wait to have a crack at winning it on him."
