Clive Cox Sets Sights on Qipco 2000 Guineas Target for Ghostwriter

Newmarket Classic 'Foremost' in trainer's plans for Royal Lodge victor. 

British trainer Clive Cox is eyeing the prestigious Qipco 2000 Guineas as an initial target for his impressive undefeated colt, Ghostwriter.

The three-year-old, sired by Invincible Spirit, sports the recognisable purple and blue colours of owner Jeff Smith, known for his top-class achiever Alcohol Free.

Ghostwriter kicked off his career at Newmarket in an August maiden last year, showcasing his talent by clinching victory by three and a half lengths over seven furlongs. 

Subsequently, he triumphed in a novice event at Ascot over the same distance, leading from the front and finishing one and a quarter lengths clear of the second-placed horse.

His final race of the season saw him step up in class at Newmarket's Rowley Mile to contest the Group Two Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, where he faced formidable opponents such as the promising Capulet from the Ballydoyle stable.

Despite the competition, Cox's charge rose to the occasion, winning by a length and a quarter under jockey Richard Kingscote.

The impressive performance has now shifted attention towards the Classics, especially with Ghostwriter proving his ability over the Rowley Mile - the venue for the 2000 Guineas in May.

Cox expressed his satisfaction with Ghostwriter's progress during the winter break, highlighting the colt's increased strength and development.

Delighted with last year's successful campaign, Cox is eagerly anticipating the upcoming season, with the Qipco 2000 Guineas in early May firmly on the agenda.

"The first week of May is our primary focus, particularly after his triumph on the Newmarket track, albeit on the July course, but crucially on the Rowley Mile,"

Cox remarked.

With Ghostwriter's impressive credentials, the prospect of competing in the prestigious Classic races is a source of great excitement for all involved.
