City Of Troy proved to be the best at York

City Of Troy solidified his superstar status with a dazzling, front-running display in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Wednesday.

Having dominated as a two-year-old, Aidan O’Brien's son of Justify overcame his 2000 Guineas disappointment with a triumphant Derby win at Epsom and a gritty success in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. Despite some scepticism about his earlier performances, he faced a strong field in the Ebor Festival’s opening-day feature.

City Of Troy, ridden by Ryan Moore, made a quick start, showcasing his Classic-winning stamina. He was followed closely by stablemate Hans Andersen, Ghostwriter, Japanese contender Durezza, and other challengers working their way into contention as they turned into the straight.

Aga Khan’s Calandagan emerged as a serious challenger, reflecting Francis-Henri Graffard’s successful season. However, despite Calandagan’s best efforts, he couldn't catch City Of Troy, who surged ahead to break the course record previously held by Sea The Stars.

City Of Troy finished a length ahead of Calandagan, with Ghostwriter taking third. The 5-4 favourite delivered a scintillating performance that silenced any remaining doubters.

O’Brien commented, “I’m always talking him up, and he smashed the course record despite the race not going entirely as planned. Ryan’s decision to take the lead was brilliant, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved.”
