Cheltenham Schedules Morning Inspection for Cross-Country Course
Cheltenham's cross-country track faces an 8 am assessment on Wednesday to determine whether the Glenfarclas Chase can proceed later that day.
Overnight rainfall has led to a softening of the ground in preparation for the 2024 Festival. The current conditions are described as soft, heavy in patches on the main course, and waterlogged in areas of the cross-country track.
A Cheltenham spokesperson disclosed,
"Following an unexpected six millimetres of rain overnight, a notable shift from the initial 2mm-4mm forecast, and with an additional 4mm-6mm anticipated today, an inspection is scheduled for 8 am tomorrow specifically for the cross-country track due to its current waterlogged state."
"In the event of an unfavourable outcome during tomorrow's evaluation, we are collaborating with the British Horseracing Authority to devise a backup plan for the Glenfarclas Chase to take place on Friday, Gold Cup Day."
"Updates will be promptly shared once decisions have been reached."
