Charlotte’s Web Aims for Crisford’s Hat-Trick in Winter Oaks Trial
Simon and Ed Crisford target a third consecutive victory in the BetMGM Winter Oaks Trial at Lingfield on Wednesday, with the progressive Charlotte’s Web spearheading their bid.
The father-son duo have dominated this 10-furlong handicap in recent years, winning with Al Agaila and Oh So Grand, both of whom went on to claim the BetMGM Winter Oaks itself. Now, Charlotte’s Web, a daughter of Night Of Thunder, looks to continue their streak.
After showing promise in maiden and novice events, Charlotte’s Web secured back-to-back wins in handicap company, first at Wolverhampton in September and then with a commanding performance at Newcastle.
“We’ve been very happy with her since Newcastle,” said Simon Crisford. “This is another step up, but we’re hopeful she’ll give a strong account.”
Miss Dolly Rocker, trained by Roger Teal, also lines up as a key contender. Narrowly beaten at Lingfield in the past, she was a creditable sixth in Kempton’s London Series Middle Distance Final and returns to 10 furlongs, a trip Teal believes suits her well.
“She’s been running well in decent races, often without much luck,” he said. “We know she handles Lingfield, so we’re hopeful for a good run.”
The field also includes Timeless Charm (George Boughey), Typical Woman (Ian Williams), Countess Candy (Conrad Allen), and Therapist, a rare Flat runner for Nicky Henderson.
Later in the day, Listed Glory will be on the line in the Unibet Hyde Stakes at Kempton. Group Three winner Holloway Boy leads a competitive lineup that includes Poker Face (Crisfords), Flight Plan (Holloway Boy’s stablemate), and Dear My Friend (Charlie Johnston).
Among the challengers are the in-form Whitcombe Rockstar (Keiran Burke), seeking a fifth straight win, and the unexposed Roi De France (John and Thady Gosden), who impressed in a recent course-and-distance victory.
